A Halloween Kills image reveals a new look at Michael Myers. After countless sequels, reboots, and spinoffs, the long-running slasher franchise went back to square one with 2018’s Halloween. The latest installment basically disregarded almost everything that came before, and instead acted as a direct sequel to the original film from 1978, directed by John Carpenter and starring Jamie Lee Curtis.

The original, along with many other films in the franchise, primarily focus on Michael Myers who was committed to a sanitarium at a young age for the murder of his older sister, Judith Myers. Years later, Myers escapes and slashes up the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois with a kitchen knife. Though his killing sprees only occur on the holiday of Halloween, the same day he killed his sister. Eight sequels followed 1978’s Halloween before Rob Zombie remade the original in 2007, which he followed up in 2009. The franchise returned to its roots with a direct sequel to the original in 2018, and a year later, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends were announced as the next two installments to come in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

Halloween Kills is currently set for an October release and its promotional campaign is in full swing. A recent set photo of Myer’s car teased a flashback to the original film, and now fans have a look at the iconic slasher himself in Halloween Kills, courtesy of Empire (via DiscussingFilm):

While Myers doesn’t look any different here than in the past film, fans are likely excited to see he is still alive after being locked in the basement of a burning house. But given Myer’s uncanny ability to survive absolutely anything, this is not surprising in the slightest. Those who stuck around for Halloween’s post-credits scene could hear Michael’s heavy breathing, indicating he escaped the burning basement and survived.

Like its predecessor, Halloween Kills looks like it will continue to tie in with the original movie and instead of ignoring it like past installments. Jamie Lee Curtis will return again as Laurie Strode, the sole survivor of Michael Myers’ first slash fest who is now suffering from post-traumatic stress. Two more characters from the 1978 film will be returning in Lindsey Wallace (played by original actress Kyle Richards) and Tommy Doyle, though he will be portrayed by Anthony Michael Hall. While Carpenter has warned Halloween Kills may be sent straight to streaming, it is currently slated for a theatrical release on October 15.
