One of the unique Pokémon players can get in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl is Mothim, a Bug and Flying-type and the evolved form of Burmy. Part of what makes Mothim unique is that the Pokémon can’t be found in the wild, and it only evolves from certain types of Burmy. Oddly enough, Burmy is one of the only Pokémon found solely on Honey Trees in Pokémon BDSP. Additionally, although Mothim has a below-average stat package, its Attack and Special Attack Stats are good enough to help players in their journey to beat Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Mothim has two abilities, the first being Swarm and the second being a Hidden Ability called Tinted Lens. Swarm increases the power of Bug-type moves by 50% when a Pokémon with this ability has its health reach below 50%. Since Mothim has such low Defense, Special Defense, and HP stats, this ability comes in handy as trainers try to turn the tide of battle. Tinted Lens powers up any normally resisted move, such as using a Flying-type move on a Rock-type Pokémon.

Mothim is one of the Pokémon needed to fill the Sinnoh Pokédex in order to get the National Dex in Pokémon BDSP. For trainers just looking to earn the National Dex, an Ace Trainer can be found on Route 210 with a Mothim as part of their party. The pathway initially leads from Solaceon Town to Celestic Town, so players will need to complete roughly half the game before accessing this area.

How To Get Mothim in Pokémon BDSP

To get a Mothim, players will first need to slather a Honey Tree with the Honey item and wait six hours. From the six-hour mark to 24 hours after putting honey on a tree, a wild Pokémon can be found on the tree. Interacting with the tree will trigger the battle, but unfortunately, there is only a 10% chance that players will find a Burmy. Unlike Munchlax, a Pokémon previously only found through Honey Trees in the original games, Burmy cannot be found in the Grand Underground in Pokémon BDSP. Furthermore, players will need to find a male Burmy to get a Mothim. Burmy has a 50% chance of being male or female when encountered, so players will need to exercise patience if they want to include a Mothim on their team in Pokémon BDSP.

After catching a male Burmy, all players have to do is raise it to level 20, and it will begin evolving into Mothim. If players were to catch a female Burmy, it would evolve into Wormadam. While both Wormadam and Mothim are Bug-type Pokémon, Wormadam’s second type is Grass. Although Wormadam does have an impressive Special Defense stat, its overall stat package isn’t as impressive as Mothim’s.
