Players can find and catch legendary Pokémon, Phione, in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl using a unique unlocking method. Throughout the Sinnoh region, players will come across a handful of powerful and mysterious legendary Pokémon. While many of them can be found by discovering them in the overworld and interacting with them, a handful such as Phione and its counterpart, Manaphy, requires different unlock methods. The only way to obtain this Pokémon is through an event and breeding. To unlock them both, players will need to grab them before the set deadline.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are currently giving away a Manaphy Egg through the game’s Mystery Gift mechanic. This method allows players to receive free gifts from Nintendo and will only last until February 21st, 2021. It’s currently the only way to get Manaphy and Phione in the game. Players have until then to claim the Manaphy Egg. In this Pokémon game, players will need to unlock access to the Mystery Gift. Players will need to complete the first gym and go to the TV Station in Jubilife City. An attendant will give the player the Mystery Gift option and will now appear in the player’s pause menu. Use the Mystery Gift option to claim the Manaphy Egg.
Now that players have the Manaphy Egg, they can use it to get Phione. Players will need to add the Manaphy Egg to their party and walk around 2500 steps to make it hatch and use Manaphy to get a Phione.
Getting Phione in Pokémon BDSP
After hatching the Manaphy Egg, players will need to find a Ditto which can be caught in the Grand Underground’s Dazzling Caves or on Route 218 through random encounters. After catching Ditto, trainers now need to place Ditto and Manaphy within the Day Care Center in Solaceon Town. After a while, players can speak with the breeder, and they will give the player an Egg in return. The player will need to walk around 2500 steps to hatch the Egg to get Phione. Unfortunately, players cannot Shiny Hunt this Manaphy egg since it’s currently locked.
Unlike other Pokémon born through breeding, Phione does not have the ability to evolve into Manaphy. In the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, players needed to transfer over the Manaphy Egg from a copy of Pokémon Rangers, one of the best Pokémon spinoffs in the series. Unfortunately, this Mystery Gift event won’t last for long as it expires on February 21st. Once it’s over, the only other way to obtain a Manaphy is to trade with a friend.
