10 Kevin Smith And Jason Mewes Appeared In A Cameo In 2009’s Fanboys

While it wasn’t technically as Jay and Silent Bob, both Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes appeared in 2009’s Fanboys as exaggerated versions of themselves. As the titular fanboys stop at a gas station, they meet Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes in the rest stop bathroom along with View Askew’s former assistant turned director Zak Knutson.

It’s an odd cameo for the duo (and Knutson, who also appeared as Kinky Kelly in Clerks II) but it fits in well with the cameo-filled movie even though it didn’t have much to do with the overall premise.

Jay and Silent Bob have also appeared in quite a few music videos over the years, which usually coincides with the release of a Kevin Smith film and serves as tie-in music videos, which first began with Soul Asylum’s video for “Can’t Even Tell.”

The song appeared on the Clerks soundtrack and the music video starred the cast of the indie film as they played a game of rooftop ball hockey against Soul Asylum, homaging a similar scene from Kevin Smith’s critically-acclaimed debut film. Jay and Silent Bob were rocking out in their usual spots outside of the Quick-Stop convenience store.

Mallrats hit theaters in 1995 and featured Jay and Silent Bob’s first big-budget appearance (compared to Clerks), though the tie-in music video for The Goops cover of “Build Me Up Buttercup” was anything but big-budget.

The video opened with a title card that read “How to make a movie tie-in music video when you can’t get Spike Jonze by Jay and Silent Bob,” and proceeded to dance around on camera as title cards ran through a music video checklist intermixed with scenes from Mallrats. Unfortunately, they must have lost the crucial title card about including the actual band in the video.

While Kevin Smith directed a few episodes of The Flash on The CW, but it was the fourth season’s “Null and Void” (Smith’s first with the series) that featured a cameo by two security guards who certainly looked like Jay and Silent Bob (who shared his character’s quiet mannerisms), though it was odd seeing them gainfully employed.

Jay and Silent Bob were working at a museum and attempting to move a heavy crate off the loading dock which was then stolen by Null. The pair then hilariously reappeared after Elongated Man broke a priceless vase during the investigation.

Kevin Smith directed the music video for Afroman’s incredibly popular song “Because I Got High,” which also appeared in 2001’s Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. The video featured Jay and Silent Bob out front of the Quick-Stop while Afroman made his deliveries around the neighborhood.


Thematically, Jay and Silent Bob’s involvement made a lot of sense and it also showed some of Kevin Smith’s versatility as a director.

The finale of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back saw the titular lifemates used their hard-earned movie royalty money to fly around North America to deliver beat-downs to anyone that trashed them on the internet, which was set to Stroke 9’s “Kick Some Ass.”

Jay and Silent Bob would also go on to star in Stroke 9’s tie-in music video, which featured the pair following a similar premise, though this time they beat up various boy band parody groups while Stroke 9 dangerously blocked off a cul-de-sac to play a street party.

4 Jay And Silent Bob Had A Recurring Relationship With The Scream Franchise

The Scream franchise had an interesting and recurring relationship with Jay and Silent Bob that started when a VHS copy of Clerks was seen prominently in the party house of the first Scream. Kevin Smith then included a cameo from horror legend Wes Craven in Jay And Silent Bob Strikes Back, who was directing the (at the time) fictitious Scream 4.

Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith then made a cameo in Craven’s Scream 3 as they were seen on the set of the fictitious Stab 3. They mistake Courtney Cox’s Gail Weathers for Connie Chung and asked her about Maury Povich.

3 They Reenacted A Scene From The Shining In Nova Rockafeller’s “Problem”

While it’s an incredibly brief cameo, Jay and Silent Bob make an unforgettable appearance in Nova Rockafeller’s music video for “Problem,” which featured the Canadian musician as she attended a house party complete with a bounce house and a poolside wrestling match.

As the POV moved through the house party-goers are encountered in the various rooms, which eventually revealed Jay and Silent Bob by a bed together as they reenacted the “bear man” scene from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

2 Jay And Silent Bob Found A New Hangout In “Loser” By Moby Rich

Pop duo Moby Rich included Jay and Silent Bob in their music video for the hit anthem “Loser,” which featured the View Askewniverse crew as they found a new hangout spot in front of Loser’s Liquor, which also featured a packed parking lot filled with multiple versions of Moby Rich.

Jay and Silent Bob followed their typical music video behavior and danced the day away in the background while chaos ensued around them. “Loser” also appeared on the soundtrack for 2019’s Jay And Silent Bob Reboot.

1 They Filmed A Fictional Movie On Campus In Degrassi: The Next Generation

Kevin Smith’s love for Canadian TV high school drama Degrassi appeared in small easter eggs throughout his movies, and the filmmaker was able to leave his own mark on the legacy series when he appeared on a few episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Jay and Silent Bob starred in the fictional Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh? that was being filmed at Degrassi High. The duo later returned for the Degrassi Goes Hollywood This association with the Degrassi cast then led to their later appearance in Drake’s music video for “I’m Upset,” which reunited the castmates for a wild high school reunion.
