Each day brings along a new Kar/Jenner product that gets launched from the Keeping Up With The Kardashians clan. While fans do spend hundreds of dollars to own a piece of their favorite reality TV royals, some do argue that it’s all a scam. Take for example Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Skin that’s been called out starting from her face-washing fail to her supposedly bad marketing gimmicks. But even a year after it’s launch, what is it that makes fans trash Kylie Skin so much?

May 2019 saw Kylie Jenner launch her skincare line with a pink-themed party to complement her pretty pink packaging. The first-ever kit had everything from eye cream to a vitamin c serum to a controversial scrub. Following in the footsteps of Kylie Cosmetics, Kylie Skin too took off with stellar success for being labeled as cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-free, etc. But it didn’t also take long for fans to start slamming Kylie’s skincare range for also being “potentially risky.” Stormi’s mommy faced a whirlwind of backlash, especially a walnut scrub that was described by Kardashian fans as being “too abrasive” to the extent of leaving “micro-tears on your skin.” While walnuts are good for eating, fans claimed that when it comes to putting them on one’s skin, it’s a strict no-no. But then again, that was a bigger problem that Kylie and Kylie Skin had to deal with.

While the internet had done the most absurd of things using Kylie Skin products, the worst of all was when a $20 facial cleanser started browning way before it’s expiration date. And thrifty social media users were left with no option but to use it as a toilet cleaner. But perhaps for some, pouring $20 down the drain (literally) wasn’t the best of solutions. And CheatSheet notes how a $300 signed advent calendar added to these scorned customers’ woes. Kylie Skin’s latest marketing plan includes advent calendars, with an original one being $150 and a signed one by Kylie herself – double the price.

“300?! Is that advent calendar filled with gold?” a fan seems to have asked online, while another suggested, “If only she would, you know, use that extra $$ she’s making for 2 minutes of work to help people in need…” Still, some of Kylie’s supporters believe it’s not unusual for signed merchandise to sell at an exorbitant price. “People that care enough and can afford it will buy it, those who can’t…won’t,” commented a fan about the Kylie Skin calendar which has, no points for guessing, sold out already.

Those who have been fans of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians sisters know how good they are when it comes to monetizing their fame. When Kylie singing, “Rise and shine” became a meme, she was quick to start selling t-shirts with the quote on them immediately for as much as $65. After all, being a multi-millionaire isn’t easy, and Kylie’s marketing genius mind can make one say just one thing – you glow girl!
