February is Black History Month, and Marvel Comics is celebrating with the next entry in their Marvel Voices anthology line, titled Marvel Voices: Legacy. The special one-shot showcases the publisher’s black heroes, with stories by Cody Ziglar, Victor LaValle and Natacha Bustos, who will be making her writing debut with this book. Marvel Voices: Legacy goes on sale in print and digital February 16.

At its core, Marvel Voices aims to increase diversity and representation in comics. Beginning life as a podcast, Marvel Voices has now grown, encompassing convention panels as well as a line of anthology comics. Previous Marvel Voices entries have focused on Latino, Indigenous, and LGBTQIA+ characters and creators. These specials center on underrepresented voices, giving them a platform to tell compelling and authentic stories. The line will be growing even more in the months to come, and it kicks off with the all-new Marvel Voices: Legacy, drawing from the many black characters in the Marvel Universe, including the likes of Sam Wilson and Moon Girl.

Marvel has released more information on the forthcoming one-shot, including a look at ChrisCross’ cover. The publisher has assembled an all-star roster of creators, including novelist Victor LaValle, who brings readers an all new story featuring Moon Girl, who is slated to make her animated debut early next year as well. Natacha Bustos, one of the company’s Stormbreakers artists, will make her writing debut in a new story set in Wakanda. Sam Wilson stars in a new story by J. Holtham, writer of the Cloak and Dagger TV show. Finally, the one-shot commemorates the 50th anniversary of Luke Cage, one of Marvel’s most iconic black heroes. ChrisCross’ cover showcases Black Panther, Night Thrasher, Monica Rambeau and others, poised and ready for the fight.

Marvel Voices continues to further its mission of increasing representation with Marvel Voices: Legacy. The publisher has a deep roster of compelling black characters, and this new one-shot brings them to the forefront, as evidenced by ChrisCross’ stunning cover. Not only does it spotlight well-known black characters such as Black Panther and Sam Wilson, but also lesser-known characters such as Night Thrasher. The stories embrace the history of black characters at Marvel, and it is only fitting that the special coincide with Luke Cage’s anniversary. Like the Black Panther, Luke Cage was a trailblazer, opening doors for other black characters.

Marvel Voices: Legacy continues the mission of increasing representation in comics and and the push shows no signs of slowing down, especially not during Black History Month with the series’ newest offering will celebrate the publisher’s many Black characters and creators.
