The Reaper’s Game is going into overtime, as Square Enix has announced Neo: The World Ends with You for PS4 and Nintendo Switch, with a release date of Summer 2021.

The World Ends with You was a JRPG for the Nintendo DS that was set in modern-day Shibuya. The main character was a boy named Neku, who has no memory of his life before waking up on the street. It turns out that Neku has died, but he is allowed a second shot at life, as he is invited to take part in the Reaper’s Game. Neku must develop his psychic powers and complete the tasks set for him by the wicked Reapers, with the goal of surviving for seven days. The World Ends with You has since been ported to different systems, and these have included additional scenes that have hinted at new content to come.

The World Ends with You website has been hinting at an announcement with a countdown. The timer is now up and a trailer for Neo: The World Ends with You is now available on the official Square Enix YouTube channel.

Neo: The World Ends with You appears to be a spin-off that is set in the same world as the original game. The main character is a boy named Rindo, who is a new contestant in the Reaper’s Game. The player characters from the first game don’t appear in the trailer, but some of the original Reapers, like Minamimoto, are back. The game uses 3D visuals that are meant to reflect comic book art, rather than using the 2D aesthetic of the first game. Otherwise, Shibuya looks the same as it did in the first game. Neo: The World End with You is coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Summer 2021. The game should also be playable on PS5 through the system’s backward compatibility.
