Nintendo is giving new users of Pokémon Home a free Pikachu and Kanto starter of their choosing.

Pokémon Home is finally available on Nintendo Switch and smartphones and Nintendo has a neat little incentive to start using it. Anyone that creates an account will receive a free Pikachu and Kanto region starter of their choosing. For those that haven’t kept up with Pokémon over the last two decades, the Kanto region was the area featured in the original Red and Blue games. That means you can nab Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Squirtle for your collection.
This comes on top of a free month for Pokémon Bank, the 3DS app that allowed users to pool all of their captured critters together. Since Home will be replacing Bank and many will likely not want to pay the monthly fee anymore, it seems Nintendo is phasing it out with this promotion. One big catch is that users will need to have a paid subscription to Home to transfer anything from Bank. Kind of a bummer, but at least you won’t need to keep two active subscriptions.
Along with all of that, the launch of Home has introduced 35 new Pokémon that can be transferred into Sword and Shield. It seems likely that developer Game Freak will continue to add more to the list, especially when support for Pokémon GO gets added later in the year. As for now, you’ll be able to transfer these monsters to your Switch game.

Missing on that list is a bunch of different variants of Pikachu that can be found in GO. Serebii.net has a more complete list you can thumb through, but it does seem like Game Freak will be adding more Pokémon in the future.
For now, Home is live and you can finally say goodbye to your 3DS. It’s been a long journey, but it truly is amazing how Game Freak has managed to implement cross-compatibility with games dating back to the original Game Boy. Who would have thought 20 years ago that your first capture Pokémon would still be with you?
