Over the course of nine seasons of One Tree Hill, romantic relationships were always at the forefront. From the love triangle between Peyton/Lucas/Brooke, to the high-school marriage of Nathan and Haley, romance was the focal point of every season and was integral to nearly every storyline.

Oftentimes, these romances resulted in proposals and wedding ceremonies. Despite there being seven weddings on the show, no two were the same, not even the ones that are literally for the same two characters. However, some nuptials worked out better than others by resulting in long lasting marriages as opposed to beloved partners getting jilted at the altar.

7 Keith & Jules (Season 2, Episode 16)

As revenge for Keith having an affair with his wife, Deb, Dan Scott hired a young woman to fall in love with his brother and then break his heart. The woman in question was named Emily Chambers, though to Keith, she went by Jules.

Dan’s diabolical plan seemingly worked as Jules and Keith began a relationship and quickly got engaged with plans to wed. The plan was nearly foiled when Jules intended to go through with the marriage, but Karen found out about her and Dan’s revenge plot and told her to break it off. She left Keith at the altar, leaving him heartbroken and Dan feeling vindicated. The wedding was a bust, and even though Keith tried to later attempt a relationship with the real Emily, it never worked out.

6 Lucas & Lindsey (Season 5, Episode 12)

Lindsey was always going to be Lucas Scott’s rebound; he even proposed to her with the same ring he got for Peyton. Their relationship was doomed the minute Peyton arrived back in Tree Hill, however they both attempted to go through with their wedding.

Their wedding ceremony was a disaster in season 5; first with Lindsey coming to the realization that Lucas has and always will be in love with Peyton. She thinks back to his book and the connection to the comet, which represented Peyton. She leaves the church before they can say ‘I do,’ meanwhile the nanny Nathan and Haley recently fired is off kidnapping their son, Jamie.

5 Nathan & Haley’s Second Wedding (Season 3, Episode 22)

The only thing weirder than getting married once in high school is getting married twice, and that’s exactly what Nathan Scott and Haley James did. After eloping their junior year, then separating months later, they renewed their vows in a more traditional wedding ceremony their senior year.

Haley and Nathan’s wedding had the makings to be beautiful, and most of it was, except for the fact the Peyton/Lucas/Brooke love triangle was at its peak because Brooke realized Lucas was never going to love her as much as he loved Peyton. Additionally, their wedding day ended with Rachel, Uncle Cooper, and Nathan’s fates undetermined as they remain trapped in the lake.

4 Clay & Quinn (Season 9, Episode 13)

Clay and Quinn entered the show in Season 7 as replacements for Peyton and Lucas, and while their storylines were never as epic and interesting as the former main characters, they still did their part to make up for the absence of “Leyton.”

Clay and Quinn’s wedding in the last season’s finale was simple and low-key, much like the personalities of their characters. It was the second marriage for both of them, and took place in a courthouse so Quinn could formally adopt Clay’s son Logan at the same time. It matched Clay’s proposal to her, in which he asked her to marry him with a toy ring in Logan’s room.

3 Lucas & Peyton (Season 6, Episode 23)

Lucas and Peyton’s wedding was a long time coming, but finally happened in Season 6 while the bride was expecting amid a high-risk pregnancy.

It was a beautiful ceremony where Brooke stood up as Peyton’s Maid of Honor despite years of fighting over the man who she was marrying, and Lucas’ best friend Haley officiated. The night went off without a hitch until Peyton and Lucas returned home, and she collapsed into a pool of her own blood, going into labor prematurely.

2 Brooke & Julian (Season 8, Episode 13)

Brooke Davis finally got her happily ever after when she married the man of her dreams, Julian Baker, in season 8. The only thing missing from their special day was the return of Peyton Sawyer and Lucas Scott to Tree Hill, but their absence was explained due to their daughter Sawyer being sick.

Jamie served as Julian’s Best Man and Haley was her Matron of Honor. Haley gave a special speech about how much Brooke meant to her, and how their friendship had blossomed over the years from them being strangers to the best of friends.

1 Nathan & Haley’s First Wedding (Season 2, Episode 1)

The best wedding in Tree Hill was the one between Nathan and Haley that took place between the season 1 finale and season 2 premiere. The ceremony is shown through flashbacks in the second season’s first episode, showing the couple exchanging vows on a beach.

Even though they were barely 17, they were able to wed due to Nathan’s emancipation and Haley’s parents attending as witnesses. Their quick and simple wedding was symbolic of just how in love with one another they were, and the fact their marriage lasted the entire duration of the series further proved they were meant to be.
