Pokémon BDSP How To Find (& Catch) Spiritomb

Spiritomb is a challenging Pokémon to find and capture in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. When the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were released, Spiritomb was regarded as one of the best Pokémon to have on the team, as it has no direct weakness. However, since Spiritomb is a Dark/Ghost-type Pokémon, no combination could do Super Effective damage until Fairy-type Pokémon were introduced in Pokémon X & Y. Fairy-types were added in Pokémon BDSP that can counter Spiritomb effectively.

For starters, players will need to collect the Odd Keystone item as it is required to capture Spiritomb; fortunately, there are multiple ways to get it. The first is in Twinleaf Town, and players will be able to find the Odd Keystone hidden in the pond, while the second can be located on Route 208. Additionally, a man standing in the corner of the tall grass on Route 208 will give trainers an Odd Keystone for speaking with him. Alternatively, players can obtain the last Odd Keystone by mining for it in the Grand Underground, which trainers can access by speaking to the Explorer Man in Eterna City.

Now that the player has an Odd Keystone, trainers will need to head to the Hallowed Tower on Route 209. Place the Odd Keystone within the Hallowed Tower and speak with it again. Trainers looking to add Spiritomb to their team need to know capturing it is slightly unconventional. To get Spiritomb to appear, players will need to build energy to release it.

Pokémon BDSP – Catching Spiritomb in The Grand Underground

To build this energy, players will need to interact with 32 different people within the Underground. This is one of the changes in Pokémon BDSP’s Grand Underground exploration that came along with this remake. These interactions will have to be with NPC characters found in the Grand Underground. When exploring the Grand Underground, players will come across NPCs that sell items, spout random dialogue, or heal the player’s team. At any point, players can go to the Hollowed Tower and speak with it to see how much progress the players have made. Depending on the reply, players will determine how close they are to being finished.

  • Spoken to 0-7 people: “It appears to have been built many years ago.”
  • Spoken to 8-14 people: “Its stones appear to have shifted…”
  • Spoken to 15-21 people: “…Is that crying coming from inside the tower?”
  • Spoken to 22-28 people: “Is the tower shaking ever so slightly?”
  • Spoken to 29-31 people: “There is some sort of presence… It appears ready to emerge!”

After speaking with 32 different NPCs in the Grand Underground, Spiritomb will appear in the Hollowed Tower. It will be at level 25, so players have the choice to either capture it or make it faint. There’s also a slight chance of Spiritomb being Shiny during this encounter.
