Warning! Spoilers ahead for Infinite Frontier #4!

The version of Superman who stars in DC’s Infinite Frontier miniseries is not only the President of the United States, but he has a Fortress of Solitude inside the White House! Readers were led to believe in Infinite Frontier: Secret Files #1 that his Fortress of Solitude was less of a literal fortress and more of a metaphorical one. Calvin Ellis aka President Superman had a space that he could access from any door in the White House and that he used in a similar way to how Earth-0’s Superman would use the Fortress of Solitude. It’s a place of silence and solitude where he can escape from the outside world. But now it’s revealed that he has an actual fortress inside the Oval Office.

This revelation occurs as President Superman’s aid Courtney asks him about where he’s been for the last twenty four hours. Obviously, people are bound to take notice if the President vanishes. Normally there would be a state of panic, but it seems that Courtney managed to keep things under control in his absence. At this point, Courtney meets Thomas Wayne, who has accompanied Calvin into the White House. The reason for him being there is to help President Superman track down Earth-23’s Lex Luthor.

In Infinite Frontier #4 by Joshua Williamson, Xermanico, Paul Pelletier, Jesus Merino, Norm Rapmund, and Romulo Fajardo Jr., President Superman shows Thomas his fortress, located inside the Oval Office. To enter his Oval Office Fortress he calls out a code to Kelex, stating, “Home away from home.” One moment the Oval Office looks like the real place, then suddenly it shifts into a tech-heavy Fortress. It’s not out-right stated whether the Oval Office literally transforms into the Fortress or if Calvin is using alien technology to teleport to his “home away from home.”

Nevertheless, it’s an amazing new Fortress of Solitude that will go down in DC’s history books. The Fortress of Solitude is normally in the Arctic. However, recent iterations have been in other places like the Antarctic. This is the first time that the Fortress has been in a place so close to the public. The whole purpose of Superman having a Fortress of Solitude lies in the name. It’s a place to be isolated and away from the world. The Oval Office is a great spot, although it’s more “Fortress” than “Solitude.” But transforming it into a place that is just for Superman has a similar effect.

President Superman’s unconventional version of the Fortress of Solitude is handy given how easy it is to access it. However, it sacrifices the safety of having all of Superman’s deadliest confiscated weapons being way out of any villain’s reach. Nevertheless, it’s a great concept that puts a spin on an iconic real-life location and turns it into something unique to the superhero world. Infinite Frontier #4 is available now in comic book stores and on digital platforms.
