SpiderMans PS5 Sequel Should Include Playable Peter & Miles

Insomniac’s Spider-Man franchise has been a massive success for PlayStation in the past with Marvel’s Spider-Man PS4 and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. With both of the games’ successes and Mile’s newfound abilities, players may be wondering how he will fit into Peter’s story in the next Marvel’s Spider-Man game, which will presumably arrive on PS5.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, and Yuri Lowenthal, Peter Parker’s voice actor, hasn’t started on the PS5 sequel, but some people have theorized that Marvel’s Spider-Man PS4’s side-character missions will get an upgrade now that there are two web-heads slinging around the city. Similar to Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, players would be able to free-roam the city as Peter with his more classic swinging, or Miles with his more youthful (yet untrained) swinging methods. While main missions would still be character-specific, dealing with side-missions could be done as either Spider-Man.

Being able to choose which Spidey to play as will allow for much more freedom and for different playstyles. For those who played both Spider-Man games separately, they know that Miles plays much differently than Peter due to his extra powers. Peter has seven years of fighting experience and a multitude of gadgets at his disposal to help him take down enemies with numerous combinations. Miles, conversely, has fewer gadgets but makes up for it with his venom and camouflage powers.

Spider-Man’s PS5 Sequel Could Have Differing Playstyles

It’s these differences that truly set their playstyles apart. In Spider-Man PS4, players would be opening the gadget wheel to fire a suspension matrix, then a web bomb followed by a concussive blast, and have an entire robbery crew webbed to the wall within seconds. The many gadgets in Peter’s arsenal make players feel like the classic Spider-Man who’s able to think quickly on his feet and handle different situations with ease. It also shows off Peter’s smarts, seeing as he created the gadgets all on his own and was able to continuously save the city over a period of seven years. Now, with Miles around, it may spark some creativity in Peter to craft some new gadgets like a re-vamped wingsuit, or a stealth suit – both are failed experiments that can be found around the city from Peter’s backpacks that contain various easter eggs in Spider-Man on PS4.

Miles, however, lacks the experience and smarts that Peter currently has, although he is learning – like when Peter mentions the physic calculations he does when swinging around. In Spider-Man: Miles Morales, players can learn to use Miles’ unique venom powers and watch him grow even more as a character and hero. While Miles’ arsenal wasn’t as big, what he lacked in tactility, he gained in raw strength. Mile’s venom powers allowed for various combos to be made – such as launching enemies into the air, lighting their bodies up with venom electricity, slamming them into the ground, and then webbing their electrified body up. Miles is still learning, and he did make a couple of his own gadgets, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he upgrades his arsenal in the Spider-Man PS5 sequel too.

Outside of the villains like Green Goblin and Venom who were hinted at, there isn’t much known about the Marvel’s Spider-Man sequel for PS5 just yet. However, with the previous title already having players do missions as Miles and MJ, both characters’ roles could be getting a big upgrade in the sequel. Insomniac has turned Miles into a fantastic character who has earned his title as Spider-Man, it might be a missed opportunity to not let players swing around the city as both, even if it is Peter’s storyline.
