The latest game from the iconic Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: Squadrons, has proved to be an incredibly enjoyable game that is undoubtedly not for everyone but has a lot of stuff to love. Its immersive experience is unlike any Star Wars game before as it pertains to piloting starfighters, and despite being so limited and narrow, the game goes deep.

Due to this depth, there are many things players will miss like Easter eggs and little details, but also stuff that some do not realize can be done in the game, whether that be in the story or throughout the two multiplayer modes: Dogfight and Fleet Battles.

10 Drift To Destroy Attacker

There are many advanced maneuvers and difficult to master skills throughout Squadrons; the entire game is the definition of easy to pick up hard to master, and drifting exemplifies that perfectly.

Keo teaches it to you in the story, but they only really give you one demonstration, and it is easy to forget about. If you play the campaign, you know you can drift, but not everyone will realize how it is useful. The most obvious application is to get out of a sticky situation or escape enemies/missiles. However, timed correctly, a drift can be expertly used to turn back on the individual attacking you to take them out.

9 Communication Wheel

The targeting wheel in Star Wars: Squadrons is an invaluable tool that can help any team get the win in either mode, whether that be by supports locking on to allies to drop off supplies, or bombers locking on to subsystems to pick apart a flagship methodically.

The targeting wheel is not the only wheel in the game; there is also a communication wheel. This allows the player to communicate with teammates in a more direct way to ask for help or to regroup, but less practical applications include booing, bragging, and battle crying.

8 Target & Shoot Missiles

Speaking of the targeting computer, one of the most difficult to take advantage of sections is the targeting of missiles. Countermeasures are the most useful tools against them, but they are not the only ones, and they do not last.

It is possible to actually shoot down missiles. This can get done via the targeting wheel, which can also save teammates— but it is still possible without it by simply facing it head-on and blasting that piece of junk out of the sky.

7 Look Around The Cockpit

The VR experience for this game is unbelievable, taking the game’s already immersive experience and making it even more so. It is a must for any fan of the game who has the means to get their hands on the technology.

However, even without VR, it is possible to look around some of Star Wars’ most iconic cockpits, something not automatically shown to the player. Double-click R3/the right stick on the console versions, or press the “L” key on PC, and free looking is granted.

6 Emergency Power Transfer In Imperial Ships

In this game, the power management system is a terrific addition, and switching between engines, weapons, and shields tactfully could be the difference between a win and a loss.

Shields do not apply to the three non-support Empire ships, though, with only engines and weapons available. To make up for this, Imperial ships have an emergency power transfer, meaning every ounce of power can get put into either engines or weapons— this being on top of just switching between the two— to give an even further boost.

5 Hide On Yavin Prime

There are only six maps in Squadrons, part of the limited content available that will undoubtedly drive many fans away from buying the game or playing it long term. But the maps are incredibly detailed and brilliantly laid out by the developers.

One of the maps is Yavin Prime, the planet around which the iconic Yavin 4 orbits— the moon can be seen in the distance of the map. The map is full of gas that many do not know is actually a great way to hide from attackers when they are on your tail. As long as you do not lose your way and do not stay under too long, you will lose the attacker and can get back on the offensive.

4 Target Attacker

It can get very frustrating when you are trying to attack fighters or take down capital ships or support teammates when there is someone on your tail that is invisible. But targeting can come into play to solve that once again.

The targeting wheel itself is useless in this scenario, but by double-tapping the A or X button on a controller or pressing “T” on a keyboard, the fighter will lock onto the enemy who is attacking you at that moment, allowing for maneuvering to get done to try and not only survive, but attack.

3 Acknowledge A Ping

Teamwork and balance are two crucial factors in this game in terms of success. A team that does not work together or a team who is made up of all interceptors will not work out. One brilliant aspect of the game to aid teamwork is the ping system.

You can alert teammates on a target, tell them to attack a certain ship, or ask them to defend a target. What some players do not know is that you can also respond to pings by double tapping Y/triangle or pressing the “H” key, letting the pinger and your team know you have it covered.

2 Get A Stormtrooper To Wave At You

There is no opportunity for properly walking around during the campaign, although there are interact points in each of the Imperial and New Republic hangars that allow some movement.

There really is not much to do with this, but on the Imperial side of multiplayer, there is a fun little Easter egg. If you look around you will see two Stormtroopers and one will wave at you, uncharacteristic but still cool.

1 Interact With The Droids

The New Republic, obviously, does not have Stormtroopers, and so that little Easter egg is pretty exclusive. However, both hangars have droids moving around, and Vanguard Five has his/her/they’re own little astromech.

There is an opportunity to pet this astromech of yours, and while nothing really happens, it is another fun little detail a lot of fans did not realize they could do. However, even more unknown is that there is an opportunity to interact with the famous and beloved Gonk droid, who can be seen hanging around the hangar getting on with his daily gonking.
