Early Access for Temtem began only yesterday, but already the game is seeing a good amount of traffic peaking at more than 30,000 players in the past two days with users reporting waiting hours in queue to log in. The reception to the newest creature-collecting game has been only positive so far, so here is a beginner’s guide on everything you need to know when jumping into the action to make the most of your time as a new Temtem Tamer.

Let’s Get That Bread With Side Quests Galore

The immediate comparison being made online is that Temtem is a Pokémon clone, but this is only true at a superficial level. Temtem looks to have a campaign series of main quests that will see Tamers work to defeat Dojos, but there are also many side quests available that all players should take.

Completing these quests are often simple, and they provide several important resources to help you along. Some quests reward Pansuns, the in-game currency that seems to always be in short supply. Other quests reward useful items or gear. Since gear is not used up on equip, it is important to try and acquire all available gear pieces since you never know what future content may have, and gear that is not especially useful now might be essential in the future.

While running around exploring the islands and doing main and side quests, make sure to search everywhere as well. Loot can be found virtually anywhere, so embrace your inner hoarder and pick up everything that isn’t bolted down.

Be A Social Butterfly

Temtem is described as an MMORPG, and while that might be a bit of a stretch in describing the gameplay, the main idea is that the game is meant to be played with other people. Even if you do not want to always socialize with others, there are major benefits to making friends in the game since you can chat and trade with other players.

Developing a large network of friendly online players can come in handy simply for information for when you are stuck, and perhaps more importantly, because you can trade for Temtems that you might be looking for with specific stats and techniques. This is especially true because of how breeding can produce offspring that have unique combinations of techniques that cannot be obtained in the wild, which leads to trying out breeding for yourself.

Learning To Deal With Different Types And Conditions

One of the greatest differences between Temtem and any of the games in the Pokémon series lies in how combat is treated. Put simply, there is little RNG in Temtem, meaning that accuracy, evasion, and critical hits are not left up to chance.

As a result, the emphasis placed on strategy, Stamina management, and type advantage is far greater in Temtem. Clicking here will take readers to our article on which Starter Temtem is best, where we argue that either Crystle or Houchic are strong choices for the early game, while Smazee is more difficult to use in the beginning, and this is completely due to his type disadvantage in the first islands.

Get to know the primary types of the islands you are exploring and build your roster accordingly to best deal with the NPC battles you find there.

Experience Is Shared In Battle To Help Level Up The Little Guys

Battling with your Temtems will gradually provide experience as they level from 1-100. When a battle finishes, all Temtems that were involved will receive a portion of the experience, and this is a great way to level up new, low-level Temtems. This can also be used in areas where one Temtem is weak against the types of opponents found there but when you do not want to them to fall behind in experience compared to the rest of your roster.

Technique Limits Mean You Need To Plan Ahead

As your Temtem levels up they will gradually learn new techniques, but unlike other creature-collecting games, players are not forced to abandon old techniques forever in favor of new ones. Once your Temtem has learned a new technique it is added to their overall catalogue of available moves.

This adds yet another layer of strategy to the game, both for PvE and PvP, because you will always have access to a broad range of abilities as your roster grows and overall level. This is also why breeding will certainly be important in the late game, since the offspring of two Temtem can, if lucky enough, acquire powerful techniques from both parents.

Early Access Just Started, So Go Out And Explore

Not only have the game only now launched into Early Access, there are clearly signs throughout the game that more content is coming. Entre areas of blocked off with messages indicating that they will be available in the future, and although the current number of Temtems available to find and collect is 76, the Tempedia has slots for nearly 150, and there is no reason to assume the developers would top there if the game is successful.

Take the tips mentioned above to heart and then get to exploring. There is so much to do already, and more will be coming in bursts as the developer works towards a formal release. Best of luck in becoming the best Tamer!
