MTV’s hit competition series The Challenge has been around for quite a while, and it has had many iconic moments in it’s storied history. Whether it’s a memorable fight, an epic final win, an unforgettable daily challenge, or an astonishing elimination, The Challenge has had many moments that fans will never forget.

Eliminations are how a challenger lives or dies in the competition, and they can be absolute wild cards for the game. Here are 10 of The Challenge’s most iconic eliminations of all time.

10 Jonna & Jasmine Vs. Sarah & Katelynn – A Puzzling Win

Sarah Rice is a challenger who is well rounded, but is particularly known for her intelligence and skills at puzzles. So when she and her partner Katelynn (who was no slouch in the brain department either) were put in a puzzle elimination against Jonna and Jasmine, Sarah’s confidence was through the roof.

But what Sarah didn’t seem to realize (clearly she never watched the kid’s reality show Endurance), is that Jonna is actually pretty kickass at puzzles too.

9 Laurel Vs. Ninja – Premature Celebration

This was definitely a matchup for the ages. Laurel is one of the toughest competitors of all time. Ninja Natalie is a exceptional climber, and it was a climbing elimination.

But what obviously pushed this elimination over the top is that Laurel initially thought she had won, and she wasn’t exactly a good sport at beating Ninja at something she’s good at. But that over the top celebration was premature, and it was actually Ninja who won.

8 Zach Vs. CJ – Hall Brawlers

CJ, a player who nearly made it to the NFL, was someone who had quite a leg up in a competition like hall brawl.

However, Zach’s absurd, enormous size evened the playing field. It looked like CJ was going to pull out the win, but Zach managed to get the upper hand on CJ and win by a hair.

7 Jordan Vs. Zach – Hammer Time

Zach is someone who appears to be somewhere between the size of Thor and Hagrid, so it’s no surprise that he relies on his strength and size in physical competitions.

But unfortunately for him, Jordan’s strategy in their sledgehammering competition was better, and the much smaller Jordan completely dominated in his performance, leading to he and his teammate Sarah ultimately winning the elimination.

6 Jordan Vs. Johnny – Backfire

Had Jordan actually won this elimination, it would have been one of the most iconic elims for all of the right reasons. But he didn’t, so it was iconic for all of the wrong ones.

Jordan was determined to eliminate Johnny from the game, and he declared to everyone that if Johnny was put into the elimination then he would flip every card until he found the kill card. When they showed up to the elimination, it was clearly going to favor Johnny, but Jordan flipped all of the cards anyway.

5 Derrick Vs. Wes – Pole Wrestle

Pole wrestle or eliminations of it’s ilk have become one of the most popular and beloved elimination styles in The Challenge, and that is in no small part because of this elimination between Derrick and Wes.

They were easily two of the strongest competitors in the game, and as soon as that horn blew they absolutely destroyed each other. Wes came up the winner, but they both went down in Challenge history books because of it.

4 Derrick Vs. Joss – Crazy 8’s

Derrick may have lost to Wes in pole wrestle, but he more than redeemed himself in this insane elimination against Joss. Joss is undeniably one of the strongest competitors in recent years, and he probably has 50lbs on Derrick.

But they call him diesel Derrick for a reason, and after hours of brutal fighting, Derrick tricked Joss to pull out the win. It’s hard to say if anyone was a winner though, since they both left the arena looking like they’d gone through a meat grinder.

3 Wes & Casey Vs. Everyone – Fresh Meat Slaughter

Yes, this isn’t one elimination, but the Exile in the original Fresh Meat season was always the same, and Wes and Casey were basically Exile assassins. There were eight Exiles throughout the season, and Wes and Casey were put into five of them. And they won all five times.

It’s exceptionally rare for any competitors to do that well in a season where they’re constant targets, and it was clear from his first season that Wes would be a Challenge legend.

2 Jay Vs. CT – Take Shelter

Maybe it’s just because this elimination is so fresh, and it was so beyond shocking, but the elimination between Jay and CT was really astounding. No one on The Challenge wants to face CT in anything, ever. And this particular elimination was a style that CT had already played and won before, against fellow Challenge legend Darrell even.

But in the upset to end all upsets, the rookie and alleged “layup” Jay managed to beat CT.

1 CT Vs. Johnny – The Backpack

When it comes to iconic eliminations, none could be more iconic than this one. Heck, this is likely the most iconic and memorable moment in Challenge history. When Johnny and CT were supposed to square off, it was in theory supposed to be a fight.

However, CT managed to get himself and Johnny off the ground and literally walk across the finish line with Johnny strapped to his back faster than most people walk at a normal pace, you know, without an entire other struggling and flailing human attached to them.
