The T-Rex returns in the latest teaser for Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom. While the original Jurassic Park is one of the best summer blockbusters of all time, its sequels have struggled to match its quality. The Lost World had some great setpieces and it was fun seeing Jeff Goldblum promoted to the lead role, but it lacked the freshness and energy of the original. Steven Spielberg later admitted he felt bored making the sequel, which showed in the final product.

Joe Johnston’s Jurassic Park III was a forgettable piece of fluff that featured some nice effects but was lumbered with lame comedy and a paper-thin story. It took fourteen years for Jurassic World to arrive, and the combination of great trailers and nostalgia saw the movie gross a seriously impressive $1.6 billion worldwide. While the film received mostly positive reviews, some critics took aim at the somewhat mean-spirited death of a side character named Zara, and the overwhelming amount of product placement.

The full trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom arrives on Thursday, and a new teaser reveals the iconic T-Rex will return once more. It’s hard to parse a whole lot of story information from such a brief clip, but at least Chris Pratt’s returning hero Owen Grady looks pleased to see her. The T-Rex also proved to be the highlight of the previous adventure, where the film wisely held her back until the finale so she could have an intense battle with the Indominus Rex.

J.A. Bayona takes over from Colin Trevorrow as director for Jurassic Park: Fallen World, though Trevorrow co-wrote the story alongside Derek Connolly. The story for the film hasn’t been completely unveiled yet, though apparently, it will feature a mission to rescue dinosaurs from Isla Nublar. Jeff Goldblum will also return as Ian Malcolm, though the actor recently confirmed that his role is basically a cameo. Given the first two movies, it’s unlikely Malcolm would willingly set foot on an island filled with dinosaurs again anyway.

Jurassic World proved there was still a very active fanbase for the franchise, but its mixed reception will likely mean Fallen Kingdom won’t match that film’s impressive box-office tally. Colin Trevorrow always stated his plan was to script this sequel but hand the reins over to a new director, while he moved on to Star Wars: Episode 9. Despite having developed that project for over a year, however, Trevorrow was recently removed from the director’s chair on that film, with J.J. Abrams returning as director instead.

It’s pronounced Paw-rick, not Pad-raig. Now that’s out of the way, a brief introduction. Padraig has been writing about film online since 2012, when a friend asked if he’d like to contribute the occasional review or feature to their site. A part-time hobby soon blossomed into a career when he discovered he really loved writing about movies, TV and video games – he even (arguably) had a little bit of talent for it. He has written words for Den of Geek, Collider, The Irish Times and Screen Rant over the years, and can discuss anything from the MCU – where Hawkeye is clearly the best character – to the most obscure cult b-movie gem, and his hot takes often require heat resistant gloves to handle. He’s super modern too, so his favorite movies include Jaws, Die Hard, The Thing, Ghostbusters and Batman. He can be found as i_Padds on Twitter making bad puns.
