In celebration of the unveiling of Toyota’s all-new GR Yaris, game publisher NACON, development studio KT Racing, and WRC Promoter announced a multi-year agreement with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing becoming the presenting sponsor of eSports WRC for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

In its fifth season this year – and currently at round eight of eleven – eSports WRC is an online competition that is available to any player with WRC 8. The championship is made up of ten preceding rounds of off-road races, driving on the “same roads and stages as the real-life WRC.” Participants who make it to the final stage of the competition will be invited to race live on television in the eSports WRC Grand Final.

Along with the newly announced partnership, the grand prize winner will also receive the brand-new, lightweight Toyota GR Yaris, which features “Toyota’s new GR-FOUR intelligent all-wheel-drive system and a thrilling 1.6-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine delivering 261 DIN hp and 360 Nm of torque;” a fitting prize for the eSports WRC series.

“We’re very proud of the progress we’ve made since the creation of eSports WRC, which has become inseparable from the development and work performed all year long on the WRC video games.” Benoît Clerc, NACON’s Head of Publishing, said in a statement of the partnership. “It has now become an unmissable event for every fan of off-road racing games. Thanks to the support of Toyota, the 2020 year will benefit from significant reinforcement, and we’re very impatient to continue collectively expanding eSports WRC.”

WRC Promoter managing director, Oliver Ciesla, echoed the excitement of the partnership, stating:

“The eSports WRC Championship has grown in stature over the last five years to become one of motorsport’s leading virtual competitions. We’re pleased to welcome the enthusiastic participation of Toyota Gazoo Racing, a WRC manufacturer team, to the tournament.“

While no explicit details were released as to how, this new partnership will extend into the WRC video game franchise as well, beginning with WRC 8 and continuing into WRC 9, which is slated to release this year on September 3rd.
