Monster Hunter World: Iceborne added the Steamworks area for obtaining more materials and wyvern prints in-game, but did you know that you’ve been using it wrong this whole time?

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has been out on PC for almost a month and some players have discovered that one of the newest elements of the DLC is far easier to use than the game has let on. Steamworks is a new area in Seliana that has players adding fuel and playing a mini-game for random rewards. By playing a simple button-matching sequence, players can build up enough steam to send it into “overdrive” and claim rewards like Celestial Wyvern Prints that are used to craft rare materials, armor spheres for upgrading armor, golden eggs that you can sell for 20,000 Zennies (the in-game currency) and loads more.

The mini-game seems relatively easy to play. Players enter the Steamworks mini-game, located up the stairs from the Smithy and guessing which order of “W-A-D” matches the prompt on the screen. Matching the keys will give you better rewards, but hitting the wrong keys will still gain you some type of reward. There is no tutorial when you enter the Steamworks for the first time. The game doesn’t explain to you that you can get away with using your arrow keys if you don’t want to use “W-A-D”. The game also doesn’t tell you that you don’t even need to use any of the suggested keys at all.

A Reddit user posted that all you need to do to spam Steamworks is hold down the space-bar and the mini-game will auto play. We tried to test this theory by placing a game controller on the space-bar and it actually worked! Not only did it work, but it would say that, at times, you were hitting the right keys and give you those better rewards. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme-or-reason to the mini-game and once it builds up enough steam you will be flooded with trade-in items, ancient potions, mega-barrel bombs and “Steam Tickets” that you can use to craft decorations at the Elder Melder. Steam Tickets come in steel, silver and gold. Gold tickets have higher RNG and increase the chances of dropping higher rarity decorations.

Monster Hunter: World is all about the grind. Players put hundreds and even thousands of hours into specialized hunts that have a 1% chance at dropping certain items. Expanding your arsenal of ways to obtain materials and decorations is something that every hunter should be aware of and knowing that you can farm decorations by simply resting something on your keyboard and taking a nap is the ultimate weapon a hunter can possess in the New World.

What do you think of the Steamworks Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and have you been playing it wrong this whole time? Let us know in the comments!
